Originally used by kathakali dancers, these masks are extraordinary depictions of the Indian culture. Kathakali is the classical dance-drama of Kerala, South India, which dates from the 17th century and is rooted in Hindu mythology. Kathakali has a unique combination of literature, music, painting, acting and dance.

Hand crafted original creations these antique masks can be used to accents your walls and are a great additon to your collection.

This particular mask signifies a Demon king, the markings on the forehead and the colors portray his character and his royalty.

The green colored face represents the virtuous and noble, the ‘kathi’ or the knife symbolizes the proud, unrighteous and aggressive, the red beard represents the destructive and demonic, white ‘thadi’ or beard symbolizes the legendary and fantastic and the black beard represents the cave dwellers or tribal men. These different characters portray different divisions of society.
According to Indian mythology, the Kathakali Masks represent different moods and characteristics of the society. Adding masks to your interior symbolizes goodness and truth.
